straw (stalk)
Category: general
Also known as: 藁
Dried stalks of cereal plants such as wheat or rice, left over after the grain is harvested. Straw is used for bedding animals, thatching roofs, weaving hats and stuffing scarecrows, and a single stalk is sometimes chewed idly in rural scenes.
