tang sanzang

Tang Sanzang is the Buddhist monk at the heart of Journey to the West, the pilgrim escorted to India by Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing. The classic look is a monk in a red and gold robe carrying a ringed staff, sometimes wearing a five lobed crown. Many modern versions reimagine the priest as a woman with long hair and prayer beads.
